After exploring Victor Ekpuk’s vast chalk drawing on black walls in Sixfold Symmetry: Pattern in Art and Science, kids will make drawings of their hands with repeated patterns, using colored pencils and crayons that show up brightly on black paper.
Family Saturdays foster multigenerational creative cooperation through looking at artwork, discussing it, and engaging in a hands-on art activity. Most programs run from 2:00 - 3:30 pm and include a tour of a specific exhibition.
All programs are free and open to the public, and suitable for children ages 5 and older, accompanied by their adult companions. Materials are provided. Reservations are required—for additional information and reservations, call the Tang’s Visitor Service Desk at 518-580-8080.

Join illustrator Bruce Hiscock and learn how to draw a winter mouse at the Saratoga Springs Public Library (49 Henry Street, Saratoga Springs) on Friday, Feb 24th 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Then branch out and sketch your own Saratoga Reads Stuart Little. For grades 1-8. Children must be accompanied by an adult drawing partner. Register online or by calling 584-7860, ext. 305.

Grab your cape and mask, and join the booksellers at Northshire Bookstore for a fun celebration of all things super hero, with crafts, games, and fun. Join Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park on a family snowshoe hike in Congress Park on Monday, Feb 20th from 11am to 12:30pm. For children ages 5-12 accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Meet in the Crawshaw Story Room to receive footprint identification cards and loaner snowshoes, courtesy of Wilton Wildlife. Please bring your own snowshoes if you have them. If there is no snow we will hunt for mud tracks and then head indoors for related activities. Register in the Children's Room or by calling 584-7860, ext. 305.
At Northshire Bookstore on Monday, Feb 20th from 11am to 3pm enjoy craft projects, face painting, and a visit with Elmo, presented by Project Cameron’s Story, a not-for-profit that supports the bonding of parents with their premature babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, through the use of children's literature and storytelling. From February 16-20 you can buy books at Northshire Bookstore to donate to Project Cameron's Story, and they will donate a percentage of your purchase to the organization.

Animal Tracking Hike
Monday, February 20, from 11:00am-12:30pm
Participants will meet at the Saratoga Springs Public Library to learn about animal footprints and get snowshoes. We will walk to Congress Park and look for animal tracks. Registration is limited to 20 families, so register early! Pre-registration is required by calling the Library at (518) 584-7860 option 3.
Tuesday, February 21 from 2:00pm- 3:00pm
Participants will meet at theSaratoga Springs Public Library to learn the natural history of the Saratoga Sandplains ecosystem, going all the way back to the last ice age! This program will wrap up with a tasty marshmallow model of a real-life glacier. Pre-registration is required by calling the Library at (518) 584-7860 option 3.

Use animal skulls and furs to discover how different animals have adapted to survive in their habitats. We will be examining animal artifacts during this interactive lesson. Best for children ages 8 and up. Pre- registration required by February 20th.

Starting with an indoor presentation, participants will learn about which owls are found in our area. Then we will head outdoors to listen and look for wild owls! Winter Nature Scavenger Hunt

Children will learn to use their senses to explore the outdoors during winter by working to complete a nature scavenger hunt. The program is designed for children ages 5 and up. Snowshoes will be available for rental 30 minutes before the program; free for members, $3 for non-members. If there is no snow, the program will take place without snowshoes. Pre- registration required by February 22nd.
Natural Picture Frame Making

Join us at the Wilton Wildlife Preserve and Park for a great nature craft that can be done during any season! We will use twigs, pine cones, and other materials found in nature to create our picture frames. This program is for children ages 5 and up. Pre- registration required by February 23rd.

This Saturday, children can decorate their own gratitude chalk board with Saratoga Essential Oils at the Saratoga Farmers Market (9am to 1pm). This special craft may be used as a daily reminder of the things we are grateful for. An individual gratitude chalk board is free for all children. This activity is appropriate for all ages as even a baby scribble is full of gratitude, right? Enjoy!
